Job Summary:
The Purchasing Manager is responsible for overseeing the procurement of raw materials, components, and services necessary to produce hydraulic and pneumatic valves and related products. This role ensures that materials are sourced efficiently, cost-effectively, and in alignment with quality standards and customer satisfaction goals. The Purchasing Manager will lead a team of buyers/planners and collaborate closely with planning, production, and suppliers to support operational goals and continuous improvement initiatives. The Purchasing Manager is also responsible for cross-functional collaboration with Engineering and Quality teams to ensure material acceptability standards are consistently achieved.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Sourcing:
Develop and execute sourcing strategies for hydraulic and pneumatic valve components such as armatures, spools, fittings, springs, raw materials (steel, aluminum, etc.) and more, ensuring best value and supplier reliability. Purchasing manager will also be responsible for maintenance and engineering procurement needs. - Vendor Management:
Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, negotiate pricing, terms, and lead times, and manage performance through KPIs and regular reviews/score card. - Inventory Control:
Work with materials team, logistics, master scheduler and materials manager to manage inventory levels, prevent shortages, and minimize excess or obsolete stock. - Cost Management:
Drive cost savings initiatives through supplier negotiations, alternate sourcing, and work with engineering on alternatives of materials or vendors where possible without compromising quality. - Compliance & Documentation:
Ensure all purchases comply with company policies (qualification plans, vendor change notice, ECO) specifications, and industry standards. Maintain accurate records of purchase orders, contracts, and supplier certifications. - Team Leadership:
Lead and mentor a team of purchasing professionals and planners. Set objectives, provide guidance, and support employee development. - Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Coordinate with engineering and quality teams for new product development, product changes, and supplier qualification. - ERP System Utilization:
Use ERP/MRP systems (e.g., Syteline, SQL Reports, Access DB, etc.) to manage purchasing activities and generate reports for tracking performance and planning.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, or Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience (with a minimum of 5 years of applicable experience).
- Strong negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office Suite products, including Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
- Knowledge of ISO standards, quality systems, 5S and lean manufacturing principles is a plus.
- Experience managing a team and working in a fast-paced production environment.
- Experience with processes such as plating, anodizing, E-coating, brazing, black oxide finishing, grinding, heat treating, broaching, etc., a plus.
