Purchasing Manager

Job Summary:

The Purchasing Manager will take an active role and participate in the direction and implementation of all procurement activities. With a team of direct reports, the Purchasing Manager is responsible for all supply chain activities including: supplier relationship development, logistics, supplier scorecards, material process development, price and contract negotiation, and economic order quantity implementation. The Purchasing Manager will act as a liaison to the Master Scheduler to ensure that all purchased supplies are available as needed. Responsible for cross-functional collaboration with Engineering and Quality teams to ensure material acceptability standards are consistently achieved.  

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• Maintains staffing responsibilities for the purchasing department, including candidate selection, retention, training and restructuring as needed

• Defines and creates the daily workflow and schedules of the department

• Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive 

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Collaborates with cross-functional team to identify and manage the procurement of equipment, materials, products, and acceptable substitutions

• Utilizes consistent analysis methodology to assess current material availability and forecast future availability based on visibility of vendor metrics, market demand cycle, delivery system logistics, and other identified variables

• Effectively communicates market condition metrics and merchandise cost reports

• Prepares, directs, and processes purchase orders and requisitions for materials, supplies, and equipment

• Defines, documents, explains, and implements instructions, policies, and procedures for purchasing and contract management

• Evaluates and approves conditions for issuing and awarding bids

• Negotiates and resolves grievances with vendors, contractors, and suppliers

• Maintains and/or implements purchasing and record keeping systems

• Acts as the company’s representative in negotiations with suppliers

• Coordinates removal or disposal of surplus materials 

• Administers the departmental budget

• Performs other duties as assigned

• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in related field required, or equivalent combination of education and applicable experience

• Minimum five years of experience in related field required
